Presented at the 2011 meeting of the Southern Association of Institutional Research.
This presentation examines the relationship between student participation in community service and the undergraduate retention/development of leadership among a random sample of undergraduates who took the Study of Leadership survey at Terra Dotta University. The Study of Leadership survey, is an annual survey of leadership development among (undergraduate) college students. The survey explores the role of higher education in developing leadership qualities with a special focus on environmental conditions. Leadership is a value-driven characteristic with principles relating to social responsibility that are assessed through eight core values that describe student's levels of self-awareness and ability to work with others.
